Seminar Series


\Visiting Speakers | The lineup for the final year of this CREATE program promises to bring some fantastic researchers to Queen's. We were very fortunate to have Dr. Matthew Sigman (University of Utah) with us in November to give a short introduction to experimental design. In March we welcome Dr. Elisabeth Verpoorte (University of Groningen), and in April Dr. Thomas Buergi (University of Geneva).

CREATE - final year


Events | We're coming into the final academic year of this CREATE program. It's been a great five years so far, and we're hoping to make this one equally as helpful to our students. CHE891, 892 and 894 should all be running, so make sure to register! Additionally, many students will be participating in research exchanges over the coming months. We hope that these are rewarding experiences for everyone.

Events | Thanks to everyone to participated in our symposium this summer! It was a great two days of lectures and posters. Special thanks to our plenary speakers, Dr. Ken Itami, Dr. Chris Baddeley, Dr. Peter McBreen and Dr. Alastair McLean. We hope everyone enjoyed the symposium!

Events | The summer symposium will take place August 13th and 14th 2015. All talks will be held in Chernoff Hall, room 117. There will be a student poster session, date to be confirmend. Please contact Megan with your titles!

Events | We're pleased to announce that there will be a summer symposium on Chrial Materials for CREATE participants. At this time we have confirmed two plenary speakers. Dr. Kenichiro Itami will join us from Nagoya University, and Dr. Chris Baddeley will return from the University of St Andrew's for the symposium. CHEM892 | Due to scheduling issues, CHEM 892, Scientific Ethics, will run in the spring rather than in the second half of the winter semester. Please contact Dr. Kevin Robbie, or the Program Coordinator, Megan Bruce, for more information. There's still time to register! .

Scientific Ethics


CHEM892 | The CREATE-developed Scientific Ethics course, CHEM892, will run in the second half of the winter semester. This is a unique course, which helps develop a hightened sense of social responsibility in the scientific world. Collaborator Dr. Kevin Robbie will be running the course on Thursday mornings starting February 26th. Please register for the course if you are interested in this very important topic.

Visiting speakers | It's hard to believe that we've already hosted two of this year's visiting lecturers, but it's true! In October Dr. Chris Baddeley (University of St Andrews) arrived, and Dr. Hannu Häkkinen (University of Jyväskylä) was with us in December. We're happy to report that both of these visits have resulted in multi-personnel collaborations. We're looking forward to seeing what Dr. Emmanuel Lacote (ICSN France) will bring to the program when he visits in the spring.

Summer mini-symposium


Events | Planning for the mini-symposium entitled Chirality: Principles, Materials, Devices is well underway! Students involved in the program will have the opportunity to present their work either either a talk or a poster display, and our own associated faculty will also present. Guest lecturers | We are pleased to announce that Dr. Jeanne Crassous will be visiting us in late November 2013.  Dr. Crassous currently teaches at Université de Rennes. She has written a number of books on chirality. We are looking forward to hosting her!

Summer Series


Spring 2013 |We're currently working on a two-day mini series, scheduled to run July 22nd and 23rd. Students participating in the CREATE program will have the chance to present their work, as will the Queen's faculty collaborators. We're also expecting some visiting collaborators from both the education and industry sectors. Stay tuned for more details of this great event!

Dr. Jaerrendahl's visit


March 2013 | Dr. Kenneth Järrendahl's visit has been a great success! Students in his classes were able to apply his the information in his lectures to their own work, and we look forward to future partnerships with him and his group. We have been very pleased to host Kenneth as our final lecturer of this current academic year!

Program Committee

December 2012 | We are pleased to announce some major changes in the Program Committee. New members include chair Dr. Adi Treasurywala of ArrowCan Partners Inc., Dr. Erich Grimm of Pharmaron, Dr. Lynn Leger from Green Centre Canada, and Dr. Lucy Su from Parteq Innovations. We're looking forward to working with all of our Program Committee members to make the CREATE program the best that it can be.

update on Dr. Batail's visit

December 2012 | We have just received confirmation that Dr. Batail will be visiting Queen's from February 24th to March 6th. Please check back in the new year for more information on seminar and course times.

Dr. Sawamoto's visit

October 2012 | We had the honour of hosting Dr. Mitsuo Sawamoto for 10 days in late September and into October. The students learned a lot from Dr. Sawamoto, and were able to spend a lovely afternoon showing him around the 1000 Islands region. Dr. Sawamoto was also able to meet with many Queen's faculty, including Vice-Principal (Research), Dr. Steven Liss. Check out the Queen's news release about his visit here. It was a great start to our 2012-2013 year!

Research Agreement with Toyota R&D

September 2012 | One of our students has recently begun a three-month placement with Toyota R&D in Aichi, Japan. This is the first industry partnership in the CREATE program, and we are very happy to be able to partner with such a renowned company. We wish Lacey good luck in Japan!
