Wang Group

Organometallic and Luminescent Materials Chemistry

The Wang Group is an active and international research team comprised of about a dozen students and led by Professor Suning Wang in the Department of Chemistry at Queen's University.

The group has broad research interests throughout inorganic/organometallic chemistry, with particular emphasis on the discovery of novel organoboron and transition metal systems for applications in advanced materials. As such, the Wang Group is involved in several multidisciplinary collaborations around the globe with mutual international exchange opportunities available for both students and visiting scholars (Prof. Holger Braunschweig, Prof. Shigehiro Yamaguchi, Prof. Matthias Wagner, Prof.  Zheng-Hong Lu, etc).

Professor Suning Wang is currently recruiting students interested in undertaking graduate studies at Queen's University. If you are a highly motivated individual keen on pursuing application driven organic/inorganic synthesis, please contact Prof. Dr. Suning Wang ( for additional information.

Three new research papers online now. Good work, Kang, Soren and Dr. Peng!

  Aug., 2016

Soren's second paper accepted by Organic Letters is online now in this year. And Kang's Organometalic paper is also online. Dr. Peng's Advanced Optical Materials paper will be online soon.   See more in "Publications" page.

Congratulations to Kang!

 July, 2016

Kang obtained the poster award of BORAM 2016.

BORAM 2016 was highlight by C&EN news.

 July, 2016

The biannual BORAM meeting has a history of 30 years and was traditionally held in the United States. The 2016 BORAM is the first one held in Canada with Professor Suning Wang as the organizer. The BORAM meeting provides a forum for scientists whose research interests involve boron and its compounds to communicate as well as cross-fertilize their discoveries and ideas in boron-related chemistry. BORAM also grants students and postdoctoral researchers the opportunity to discuss their work with faculty and industrial representatives. The 2016 BORAM meeting was attended by more than 150 participants from different regions of the world including Canada, USA, Germany, UK, France, Japan, China, India, Korea and Mexico, and nearly two thirds of them were students and postdoctoral fellows, making it the biggest BORAM meeting ever!

Dr. Wang FCSC

Congratulations to Dr. Wang

Sep, 2015

Prof. Dr. Suning Wang has been elected as fellows to the Royal Society of Canada (RSC), one of the highest honours for Canadian academics in the arts, humanities, and social and natural sciences.

"Suning Wang (Chemistry), a researcher whose innovative approaches to luminescent materials and inorganic chemistry has contributed to opening up a significant new research field: photo-responsive organoboron materials and chemistry. Her studies on the phenomena of photochromism, photoelimination and switchable luminescence of organoboron systems, together with her pioneering scholarship on blue fluorescent and blue phosphorescent emitters for organic light emitting diodes have reinvigorated research on organoboron photochemistry and organoboron-based materials chemistry worldwide.
